Anup Mathew Thomas’s recent work draws on the cultural history of Kerala. View from Conolly’s Plot constitutes a series of disparate images
that track various contemporary social phenomena ranging from the increased visibility of the European-returned entrepreneur to the visual practices of a
popular religious television channel.
In 2009 the artist’s work was a part of the show Lapdogs of the Bourgeoisie, curated by Nav Haq and Tirdad Zolghadr in Arnolfini, Bristol and
The Self and the Other - Portraitures in Contemporary Indian Photography curated by Devika Daulet Singh and Luisa Ortinez at the Centro-Museo Vasco de Arte Contemporaneo,
Vitoria-Gasteiz(2009-2010) and the Centre de la Imatge, Barcelona(2009). His work has been featured in Reflections of Contemporary India curated by Luisa Ortinez at La Casa Encendida,
Madrid(2008) and Watching Me, Watching India curated by Gayatri Sinha and Celina Lunsford, at Fotografie Forum International and Kommunale Galerie, Frankfurt (2006).
Following a residency at the Gasworks International Residency Programme in 2006 the artist had a solo exhibition Metropolitan at Gasworks Gallery, London in 2007.
His last solo exhibition Assembly was presented by GALLERYSKE at Kashi Art Gallery, Kochi (2008)
