Preview: 5th January, 2008, 7:00 PM onwards

Join us on Tuesday, 8th January, 6:00 - 7:30 PM for a conversation between Sreshta Premnath and Avinash Veeraraghavan.

GALLERYSKE is delighted to present Black Box, Sreshta Premnath's second solo in Bangalore.

The show consists of three artworks in various media: "Freedom of the Seas", a series of 5 digital composite prints constructed out of images mined from Flickr.com depicting the cruise ship Freedom of the Seas sinking; "Contraband", comprising three aluminum trunks containing indigenous medicinal plant species of which isolated genes have been patented by American pharmaceutical corporations for their medicinal properties, and "Phantom Moon", a two-channel video installation in which the first photograph of the earth as seen from the moon is transformed into a 'seascape' of Halftone dots as a camera scans over it, juxtaposed against a slide projection of a camera circumambulating a model blue whale displayed at the New York Natural History Museum, and audio scripts taken from news reports, documentaries and written by the artist.

In these projects Premnath engages with questions of viewership, photographic representation and the way in which information gleaned from representation is used to assign power and ownership.
