Steel a Glance

Mirrors are used extensively in Rajasthan in their interior decoration and garments. Although it is very popular, mirrors to look at oneself in the household of commoners is limited to small size and number. I chose to create a work in an abandoned priests house in an old temple. I thought of the possibility of providing the villagers mirrors to look at themselves when they are outside their houses, when they can not use their home mirrors, may be while returning home with cattle, while playing, while in school uniform etc. Mirrors are precious to the villagers, I anticipated people slowly taking away mirrors from the wall. To make the act of taking the mirror out easy, I stuck the mirrors on the wall with mud rather than some permanent adhesive and it suited the villagers fine and me.
